Mycology Lab 101

A practical-theoretic class on how to design and operate a small scale Mycology Lab. From introducing sterile technique and building starter laboratories, to starting cultures from of cuttings and spores, all the way up through small scale commercial spawn production. Students will learn about mycelium expansion techniques, spore printing, cloning wild mushrooms, using liquid culture, making grain spawn, and scaling up spawn production. A depth of information is presented, but the pace and language used also accommodates people unfamiliar with mushroom growing. Students receive a handout with resources and information from the class, and a starter culture of their choice (liquid culture, agar plate, or grain spawn).
